Conformis Selected as Winner for 2011 American Technology Award
iTotal Knee Replacement System Recognized for Outstanding Achievement
Burlington, Mass. – June 16, 2011 – Conformis, Inc. today announced that its iTotal® Knee Replacement System has been selected as a winner in the Health & Medical Technologies category for TechAmerica Foundation’s American Technology Awards, the only national “Best Of” awards that recognize products and services across the technology industry. Nominations for The American Technology Award “The Termans” were vetted by industry experts and TechAmerica Foundation leadership. These awards were named after Frederick Terman, who is widely credited as being the father of Silicon Valley.
“We are extremely pleased to be selected as a winner of the American Technology Award,” said Philipp Lang, MD, CEO of Conformis. “The Conformis iTotal represents the culmination of years of work and investment into our industry leading technology for producing truly patient-specific orthopedic implant systems. This recognition is a testament to the outstanding work of our R&D team.”
The iTotal CR is the first and only true patient-specific system available for patients who would typically receive a standard total knee replacement. The system builds on Conformis’ patented iFit® technology for generating patient-specific implants and individualized jigs. As with all Conformis implants, the system uses computer modeling to build a 3D image of a patient’s knee from CT scans. That image then guides the proprietary design and manufacture of not just the jigs, but the personalized implants that resurface the patients’ articular surfaces.
“We had a lot of nominations for these prestigious awards, and we congratulate Conformis for their winning achievement,” said Senator Bob Bennett, Chairman for TechAmerica Foundation. “TechAmerica Foundation is excited to highlight Conformis, as it continues to influence technology development throughout the rest of the world.”
In introducing the only true patient-specific total knee system, Conformis is creating opportunities for innovation that will dramatically change the way patients and surgeons approach orthopedics. With its personalized design and its patient-specific single use instruments, the iTotal delivers a custom fitting, bone preserving implant that helps retain a patient’s natural articulating geometry.
The winners were announced on June 15 at TechAmerica Foundation’s ninth annual Technology and Government Dinner which has been a premier Washington, D.C. networking event bringing hundreds of industry, congressional and government leaders together at one venue to celebrate the partnership between industry and government.
